A Georgian Airlines Boeing 767 nearly landed on an unfinished runway at Xi’an Xianyang International Airport in China, as reported by The Aviation Herald. The incident occurred on May 28, 2025, when the aircraft was approaching the airport from Tbilisi International Airport (TBS). Cleared to land on runway 23L, the flight crew mistakenly aligned with runway 24L, which was under construction.

Xi’an air traffic control instructed the flight crew to execute a go-around. Following this directive, the aircraft landed safely on the correct runway without further incident. There were no injuries reported. "The Chinese civil aviation authority has announced an investigation into the incident."

The Boeing 767-300ER involved in this event is registered as 4L-GMC and is approximately 33.9 years old. It previously belonged to German leisure carrier Condor and has logged a total of 137,185 flight hours and 20,382 flight cycles as of early 2021.

Georgian Airlines operates as a cargo airline founded in 2021 and is based at Tbilisi International Airport. It specializes in freight operations with a fleet that includes three Boeing 767-300s and two Boeing 737s. The company focuses its operations on routes to the Middle East, CIS countries, and East Asia.

Georgian Airlines should not be confused with Georgian Airways, which serves as Georgia’s flag carrier for passenger services since its founding in 1993 under the name Airzena before rebranding in 2004.

The Boeing 767 model remains prevalent within cargo operations despite becoming less common for passenger services. While some major airlines continue using it for select long-haul routes, many have retired it in favor of newer models like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner or Airbus A350s. Nevertheless, it remains popular among cargo operators such as FedEx Express and UPS Airlines due to its robust freighter capabilities.
