As global air travel rebounds, airports worldwide are striving to meet the growing demand. Aging infrastructure and capacity bottlenecks have led to major construction projects aimed at redefining the airport experience. This article highlights five major US airports currently undergoing significant improvement projects.

Sacramento International Airport (SMF) in California is planning a $1.3 billion expansion including a new terminal concourse and ground transportation center. "This investment helps SMF stay competitive with larger West Coast airports like SFO and LAX," according to Constructive Dive.

Nashville International Airport (BNA) is investing in the BNA New Horizon plan, a $1.5 billion redevelopment including a new international arrivals facility and additional concourses. The plan is designed to accommodate Nashville's growth as it becomes a top destination for conventions and leisure travel.

Tampa International Airport (TPA) is executing a $1.5 billion expansion with a new Airside D terminal, marking its first new airside terminal in nearly 20 years. The expansion will help maintain TPA's reputation while preparing for future air travel demands.

Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is undergoing a $1.57 billion modernization program focusing on sustainability and passenger experience. The project includes constructing a new landside terminal adjacent to the existing one.

John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) in Ohio is making a significant investment in a $2 billion project to replace its current terminal. According to the airport, this development aims to improve passenger flow and expand gate capacity.

These infrastructure upgrades reflect strategic investments in connectivity, efficiency, and sustainability as airports prepare for future challenges and opportunities.
