A Ryanair Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft encountered severe turbulence on June 4, 2025, while en route from Berlin to Milan. The incident resulted in injuries to at least nine passengers, including a mother and her toddler. The flight crew diverted the plane for an emergency landing at Memmingen Airport in Germany due to unfavorable weather conditions at Munich.

According to reports, the turbulence struck as the aircraft was flying through German airspace. A total of three passengers were hospitalized, while others received medical attention at the airport. The Aviation Herald noted that supercell thunderstorms over Bavaria likely caused the turbulence.

Ryanair confirmed the incident and stated: "FR8 from Berlin to Milan on 4th June diverted to Memmingen after experiencing some air turbulence. The captain called ahead for medical assistance and the aircraft landed normally." To ensure passengers reached their destination promptly, alternative transport was arranged from Memmingen to Milan.

The incident highlights a growing concern about turbulence-related events linked to climate change. Studies suggest an increase in clear-air turbulence incidents due to global warming effects. In recent years, similar incidents have been reported worldwide, underscoring ongoing challenges faced by civil aviation regarding passenger safety during turbulent conditions.
