The summer travel season is approaching, and June marks the launch of 15 new routes from the United States and Canada to Europe. Among these is the inaugural flight from Switzerland to Seattle by Edelweiss, using an Airbus A340.

These new routes add to the 27 European routes that began in May, with a notable focus on Italy. This demand partly explains why Rome will be Alaska Airlines' first European destination next year.

Using Cirium Diio data, it has been determined that 15 routes will commence this month. On June 5, American Airlines will initiate three connections: Charlotte to Athens, Dallas/Fort Worth to Venice, and Miami to Rome Fiumicino. The emphasis remains on Southern Europe.

Most of these routes are new for the airlines involved, with only two markets facing direct competition from other carriers. Two routes are resumptions: Delta's Atlanta to Brussels and TAP Air Portugal's Terceira to San Francisco.

TAP Air Portugal resumes its Terceira-San Francisco route after a 35-year hiatus. This service focuses on the San Francisco Bay area's significant Azorean/Portuguese community. It stands out as a one-stop operation beginning and ending in Lisbon, TAP's main hub.

Air Transat returns to Germany after an 11-year absence with a Toronto-Berlin route starting June 19. It will be the first airline connecting Canada with Brandenburg since Air Canada Rouge ceased operations between Toronto and Tegel in 2019.

Newly launched or soon-to-begin services include:

- Zurich-Seattle by Edelweiss

- Bari-New York JFK by Neos

- Lisbon-Terceira-San Francisco by TAP Air Portugal

- Athens-Los Angeles by Norse Atlantic

- Montreal-Porto by Air Canada

- Charlotte-Athens by American Airlines

- Dallas/Fort Worth-Venice by American Airlines

- Miami-Rome by American Airlines

- Toronto-Prague by Air Canada

- Newark-Funchal by United Airlines

- Atlanta-Brussels by Delta Air Lines

- Toronto-Berlin by Air Transat

- Montreal-Valencia by Air Transat

- Montreal-Edinburgh by Air Canada

- Halifax-Barcelona by WestJet

These developments reflect ongoing trends in transatlantic travel demand and airline network expansions.
