Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport | Wikipedia

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) plans to suspend airline operations at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on the evening of June 14. This decision accommodates a military parade in Washington DC, celebrating both the Army's 250th birthday and President Donald Trump's 79th birthday.

The event will feature several army aircraft flying over the area, followed by a fireworks display. As a result, scheduled flights to and from the airport will be affected for several hours. Passengers are advised to check their flight status with their airlines. The Washington Post reports that severe disruptions are expected between 18:00 and 21:30, with about 100 flights held at departure airports and delayed for approximately three hours.

A limited number of flights may depart after 20:45 if wind conditions permit takeoff to the south. However, these plans remain subject to change depending on weather conditions and how the celebrations unfold. Two sources informed the Post that carriers have been notified about the suspension, though exact timings are still fluid.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) stated, "To accommodate aircraft flyovers along the parade route, followed by a fireworks display, the Federal Aviation Administration is expected to suspend airline operations at DCA – affecting scheduled flights. Customers with flight reservations for the evening of June 14 should check the status of their flights directly with their airline."

Thousands are expected to attend this parade honoring military personnel. Reuters reports that it will include 6,500 troops, 150 vehicles, and 50 aircraft such as Apache, Black Hawk, Chinook helicopters, a World War II-era B-25 bomber, and a P-51 Mustang. The Army’s Golden Knights will parachute onto the Ellipse near the White House to present President Trump with an American flag.

Initially planned as a stationary display, White House expansion efforts led to this full-scale parade desired by President Trump for some time now. The estimated cost ranges between $25 million and $45 million.

FAA collaboration with the Department of Defense continues in finalizing flyover plans while MWAA discourages event parking or fireworks viewing at Reagan National Airport due to limited garage capacity amid ongoing construction work there—road closures & increased traffic also anticipated nearby during this period.

Reagan National Airport lies roughly five miles from downtown Washington DC—its closest airport neighbor—and has around324 scheduled departures slated on June14 alone according Cirium data analysis services;38 among them fall within affected timeframe(18 :00 -21 :00 )including American Airlines ,United Airlines ,JetBlue connections bound Dallas-Fort Worth Charleston Houston Intercontinental Boston destinations amongst others totaling eight different operators serving passenger routes departing daily here—with American leading way marketing192 departures alone!

Airlines continue notifying passengers regarding potential disruption scenarios stemming upcoming festivities-Southwest advising clients about possible impact across twenty specific journeys albeit without anticipating outright cancellations occurring thus far ;meanwhile additional restrictions forthcoming expand existing Washington DC Metropolitan Special Flight Rules Area already recognized nation-wide most restricted airspace zone altogether .
