Turkish Airlines has announced adjustments to its summer schedule, affecting several US routes next month. The Istanbul-based airline will reduce flight frequencies at four major US airports: Denver International Airport, New York John F. Kennedy International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, and San Francisco International Airport.

According to Cirium, an aviation data analytics firm, these reductions are relatively minor and do not involve dropping any destinations entirely. However, the frequency of flights will be lower in July 2025, which may allow Turkish Airlines to allocate aircraft to more profitable routes.

The decision comes during the busy summer travel season in the United States when transatlantic services typically see high demand. This timing is unusual as airlines often adjust schedules in the fall when travel demand decreases. Notably, Turkish Airlines recently began daily service to Denver this month, suggesting that the route may not be performing as expected.

In three of the affected cities—New York JFK, Seattle-Tacoma, and San Francisco—only one weekly flight has been removed from the schedule. Denver faces a more significant reduction with two fewer weekly flights but will still have Turkish flights most days of the week.

The revised schedule shows that New York will maintain a robust presence with 27 weekly flights despite the reduction. This could indicate challenges in filling aircraft profitably on some routes.

Despite these changes, Turkish Airlines remains a significant player in the US market. In the year ending February 2025, it transported over 3.6 million passengers between Turkey and the United States—a 4% increase in passenger traffic. While it ranks as the fifth-largest foreign long-haul airline in the US behind British Airways, Lufthansa, Air France, and Virgin Atlantic, its recent schedule reductions are unlikely to impact its standing significantly.

As travel demand continues to fluctuate in the United States, further adjustments might occur for Turkish Airlines and other international carriers. However, for now, European operators like Turkish continue to find success in the US market.
