A South Korean Navy maritime patrol aircraft crashed near a military base in Pohang on Thursday. The incident involved four people aboard the plane, according to a statement from the navy.
The crash occurred at 1:43 p.m. local time (0443 GMT). Authorities are investigating the cause and working to confirm the number of casualties. "Tragically, deaths are expected," stated officials.
Yonhap News Agency reported that the aircraft went down in mountainous terrain along the east coast. A civilian witness told Yonhap about visible smoke rising from the crash site.
