Vietjet has announced a significant order for 20 Airbus A330-900 aircraft, marking its entry into the competitive long-haul low-cost airline market. The deal was finalized in Hanoi during French President Emmanuel Macron's official visit, emphasizing Vietjet’s strategic move to expand its international services to destinations such as Australia and Europe.

The new fleet addition aims to strengthen Vietjet’s presence in the Asia-Pacific region. Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao highlighted the importance of the A330neo aircraft, noting their efficiency and reduced fuel consumption which aligns with the airline's commitment to sustainable travel.

Currently, Vietjet operates flights to Australia, India, and Kazakhstan with its existing A330s. The additional 20 A330neos will increase its capacity to serve key international routes while maintaining affordability for leisure and budget-conscious travelers. This expansion brings Vietjet’s total commitment to 40 A330neo aircraft.

Wouter van Wersch, President of Airbus International, expressed pride in Vietjet's selection of the A330neo as its widebody aircraft of choice. He acknowledged Vietjet as one of the fastest-growing airlines globally.

The A330neo is equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and is certified for up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), supporting both performance and environmental goals. With a range capability of up to 13,300 km, these aircraft enable Vietjet to explore non-stop routes across Europe and deeper into Australia.

As international travel recovers, capacity and cost-efficiency are becoming increasingly important. Vietjet's expanded fleet positions it as a formidable competitor against established players like Scoot and AirAsia X in the long-haul low-cost segment.
