AirAsia is reinforcing its position as a prominent low-cost airline in the Asia-Pacific region, with Australia being a significant market. In 2024, four of the seven airlines under the AirAsia brand increased flights to and from Australia, driven by strong demand for affordable travel.

After resuming services post-pandemic, AirAsia has strengthened its operations, enhancing customer service while maintaining low costs. This allows passengers to access over 130 destinations at competitive fares.

In 2024, AirAsia Group recorded its highest number of flights between Australia and Asia. More routes are planned for 2025 to further expand access for Australian travelers.

The group's current services include AirAsia X Malaysia operating daily flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur using A330 aircraft. AirAsia Malaysia flies up to twice daily between Kuala Lumpur and Perth with A320 aircraft and will begin flying to Darwin on June 27, 2025. AirAsia Indonesia operates several weekly flights from Bali to Cairns, Perth, Darwin, and Adelaide starting June 25, 2025.

Approximately 30% of the group's Australian passengers use Fly Thru connecting services. This figure is expected to grow as network optimization continues.

From major hubs like Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, Australian travelers can access over 130 destinations. Fly Thru services are being enhanced for seamless connections across Asia.

Founded in 2001 by Tony Fernandes and Kamarudin Meranun, AirAsia has grown into Asia’s largest low-cost carrier with a fleet of over 200 aircraft. It has flown more than 800 million passengers.

AirAsia X and Thai AirAsia X operate an all-A330 fleet since launching in 2007. These carriers have transported over 25 million guests via their hubs in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.
