Air India Boeing 787-8 | Wikipedia

A video posted by a passenger who flew on the Air India Boeing 787-8 just two hours before its crash has drawn significant attention. The footage shows apparent electrical malfunctions within the aircraft, with the passenger stating, “nothing is working," including air conditioning, cabin lights, and seat-back screens. His videos have garnered over 16 million views.

The video raises concerns about potential electrical issues before the crash of Air India Flight 171, which departed Ahmedabad for London Gatwick with 242 passengers. The plane failed to achieve a positive rate of climb and crashed into a medical college campus shortly after takeoff. This incident marked the first hull loss of a Boeing 787.

Akash Vatsa, the passenger who recorded the video, was aboard an earlier flight from Delhi to Ahmedabad on the same aircraft. He documented several cabin failures during his journey, including non-functional air conditioning and in-flight entertainment systems. In one clip, he states, “Nothing is working. Nothing. Not even the lights are working.”

Vatsa's credibility was challenged by users on X; however, he provided an image of his boarding pass and photos showing the registration number VT-ANB to confirm his presence on that flight.

Tragically, only one person survived Flight 171's crash: Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin. Ramesh recounted his experience at a hospital interview after sustaining minor injuries. His brother's fate remains unknown as Air India confirmed that 241 out of 242 onboard perished in the crash.
