Since the start of June, Frontier Airlines has introduced new routes from three major U.S. airports: Atlanta, San Diego, and Seattle-Paine Field. This expansion comes as the low-cost carrier seeks to diversify its network amid challenging times for no-frills airlines in the United States.

Frontier Airlines launched six new routes from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on June 12 and 13. These include flights to Jacksonville International Airport, John Glenn Columbus International Airport, Palm Beach International Airport, San Pedro Sula Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport, Southwest Florida International Airport, and St. Louis Lambert International Airport. Josh Flyr, Vice President of Network and Operations Design at Frontier Airlines, noted a 40% year-on-year increase in departures from Atlanta this month.

Data from Cirium’s Diio Mi airline planning tool indicates that none of these new routes will be monopolies. For instance, flights from Atlanta to Columbus are also operated by Delta Air Lines with 59 weekly departures and daily flights by Southwest Airlines and Spirit Airlines.

In San Diego, Frontier Airlines began flying to Chicago O’Hare International Airport on June 12 and added routes to Austin Bergstrom International Airport and Salt Lake City International Airport on June 13. Flyr stated that the airline is expanding its ultra-low-cost offers from Southern California without compromising affordability.

Similarly to its operations in Atlanta, Frontier faces competition on these routes from American Airlines and United Airlines for flights to Chicago-O’Hare. On the route between San Diego and Austin-Bergstrom, it competes against Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines.

At Seattle-Paine Field International Airport, located north of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Frontier debuted three new routes on June 2: Denver International Airport (DEN), Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). The only competition on these routes is Alaska Airlines' double-daily departures using Embraer E175 aircraft for some flights.

Despite being a new airport for Frontier's operations, it maintains a presence at Seattle-Tacoma with several weekly departures. The introduction of these routes aims to complement its existing services in the greater Seattle area.
