Lufthansa Airbus A380 | Lufthansa

Germany's Lufthansa has announced an extension of its Airbus A380 service between Munich Airport and Denver International Airport. The route, originally set to conclude on September 30, 2025, will now continue until the end of October 2025. This decision comes as per data from aviation analytics company Cirium.

Starting November 2025, Lufthansa plans to replace the A380 with the Airbus A350 for this route. Currently, the airline operates year-round flights between Munich and Denver using various aircraft based on capacity needs. According to Cirium data, there are 13 A380 flights planned for October 2025 before transitioning to the Airbus A350-900 widebody aircraft. Additionally, Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners also serve this route.

Throughout June to October 2025, Lufthansa operates daily Airbus A380 flights alongside Boeing 787-9 services between Munich and Denver. However, in October, only half of these flights will use the A380, specifically on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

Lufthansa's fleet includes eight Airbus A380-800 superjumbos with an average age of 13.2 years. These aircraft accommodate up to 509 passengers across four classes: first class (8 seats), business class (78 seats), premium economy (52 seats), and economy class (371 seats). The airline previously operated up to 14 A380s but reduced this number due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to Denver, Lufthansa is operating its Airbus A380s on seven other routes this year from its Munich hub. These include destinations in Asia and the United States such as Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport and San Francisco International Airport. Not all routes operate simultaneously due to seasonal schedules.

Lufthansa shifted its A380 operations from Frankfurt Airport to Munich following a dispute over airport fees at Frankfurt. This move was part of a cost optimization strategy post-pandemic as Munich became the primary hub for their superjumbo operations.
