Japanese airline All Nippon Airways (ANA) has confirmed its decision to become the first operator of the Embraer E-Jet E2 family in Japan. This announcement was made during the 2025 Paris Air Show, where ANA finalized a firm order for 15 units as part of a broader fleet renewal plan.

ANA's choice of the Embraer E190-E2 model marks a significant step forward in its fleet modernization strategy. Deliveries are set to begin in 2028 and continue until 2033. Martyn Holmes, Chief Commercial Officer of Embraer Commercial Aviation, expressed his enthusiasm: "We are honoured that Embraer’s E190-E2 small narrowbody aircraft will join ANA’s fleet. The E190-E2 is the quietest and most fuel-efficient aircraft available, whose size perfectly complements ANA’s fleet of larger narrowbodies."

Earlier this year, ANA announced a comprehensive order for 77 aircraft, which included the firm commitment for 15 Embraer E190-E2 jets along with options for an additional five. The rest of the order comprises Airbus A321neo, A321XLR, Boeing 737 MAX, and Boeing 787 models.

The addition of the E190-E2 will be ANA's first operation of an Embraer aircraft. It fits between their existing Dash 8 turboprops and Boeing 737-800s in terms of seating capacity. FlightGlobal noted that this model would help bridge the gap between these two types and eventually replace larger narrowbodies.

Martyn Holmes highlighted several passenger-friendly features of the E190-E2: "Furthermore, the E2’s cabin will appeal to ANA’s passengers as it offers outstanding comfort and space with no middle seats." Additional benefits include larger windows and individual reading lights and air vents for each passenger.

This move is part of ANA's broader strategy to enhance its domestic travel offerings by incorporating aircraft that cater to varying capacities and routes across Japan.
