Finnair has announced the reinstatement of its Helsinki to Toronto route, which will commence on May 4, 2026. This development marks the airline's return to Canada after a hiatus since 2015. The flights will operate three times a week using Airbus A330-300 aircraft.

As of June 12, Finnair plans to serve seven airports in North America next summer. This expansion includes recent additions such as Dallas/Fort Worth and Seattle, launched in March and June 2022 respectively, leveraging oneworld connectivity.

The schedule for the new Toronto service aligns with Finnair's North American departure bank from Helsinki, facilitating connections to various destinations in Europe and beyond. Flights will depart Helsinki at 16:50 local time and arrive in Toronto at 18:35 local time. The return flight leaves Toronto at 23:40 local time, arriving back in Helsinki at 14:45 the following day.

Toronto is identified as Helsinki's second-largest unserved North American market after Boston. Data indicates that last year there were approximately 14,200 round-trip passengers between Helsinki and Toronto. Most travelers currently connect via other European hubs like Keflavik with Icelandair or London Heathrow with British Airways.

In addition to launching the Toronto route, Finnair plans adjustments across its network. Frequencies to Los Angeles and Seattle are set to decrease from five weekly flights to three weekly flights each. This adjustment will enable resource allocation for the new Toronto service.

Overall, Finnair's operations in North America are projected to grow by about 10%, increasing from 31 weekly departures in May 2025 to an anticipated 34 weekly departures by May next year.
