Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg has canceled his planned attendance at the Paris Air Show following a fatal crash involving an Air India Boeing 787-8. The event, scheduled from June 16 to 20 at Le Bourget, will proceed without Ortberg, who is prioritizing support for the investigation into the crash that claimed 241 lives out of 242 onboard.

Stephanie Pope, President of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, has also withdrawn from the show. GE Aerospace, which supplied the aircraft's engines, postponed its investor day originally set during the event. Both companies emphasize their commitment to aiding the investigation.

The crash occurred on June 12 when Air India Flight 171 departed Ahmedabad International Airport bound for London Gatwick. Shortly after takeoff, it lost altitude and crashed. Authorities have recovered the flight data recorder and are processing it as part of an investigation led by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), with support from international agencies including the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and UK's Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB).

Ortberg communicated his decision internally on Thursday evening, emphasizing his focus on supporting investigative efforts alongside Stephanie Pope. This would have been Ortberg’s first major public appearance as Boeing CEO at an international event.

GE Aerospace canceled its investor day slated for June 17 in alignment with the Paris Air Show schedule. The company is assembling a team to assist with technical investigations in India. "GE Aerospace’s senior leadership is focused on supporting our customers and the investigation," stated GE Aerospace.

India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a directive requiring additional maintenance checks on Air India's fleet of Boeing 787s equipped with GEnx engines. These checks include verification of various system parameters before each departure starting June 15.

The crash is expected to impact Boeing's presence at the Paris Air Show significantly, with several announcements potentially postponed or withdrawn entirely. Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury expressed condolences and indicated that Airbus would maintain a low profile during the week.
