United Airlines has launched a new flight route connecting Newark Liberty International Airport and Nuuk, Greenland. This inaugural service marks the first time a U.S. carrier has operated flights to Greenland, with United deploying its Boeing 737 MAX 8 for the journey. The aircraft departed Newark nearly 20 minutes behind schedule and landed in Nuuk three hours and 47 minutes later.
The new route is part of United's broader strategy to expand its international offerings, particularly to less traditional destinations. Patrick Quayle, United’s Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances, stated: "Our network provides the most choice and variety for our customers, whether they are looking for a relaxing seaside getaway, once-in-a-lifetime adventure travel or to explore some of the most vibrant urban escapes across the globe."
United plans to operate this service twice weekly during the summer season. The decision to use a narrowbody aircraft like the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aligns with recent trends where airlines deploy such jets on transatlantic routes due to their efficiency on shorter international flights.
