Chip Childs CEO of SkyWest Airlines | SkyWest Airlines

Embraer and SkyWest Airlines have announced a significant order for 60 E175 aircraft. This order includes options for an additional 50 units, providing flexibility for the regional airline over the next decade. Deliveries are set to begin in 2027.

SkyWest plans to utilize 16 of these aircraft on behalf of Delta Air Lines under its regional brand, Delta Connection. These new jets will replace older Bombardier CRJ700 and CRJ900 models currently in operation. The remaining 44 aircraft are contingent upon SkyWest securing flying agreements with major airline partners.

Chip Childs, President and CEO of SkyWest Airlines, expressed satisfaction with the order: “This order enables us to advance our long-term fleet strategy and to continue to deliver the premier regional product in the industry.”

Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, noted that this agreement underscores SkyWest's confidence in the E175's performance: “The E175 is the cornerstone of regional aviation in North America."

Embraer's decision to focus on current models follows challenges related to US pilot contracts' scope clauses. These limitations restrict regional carriers from operating larger aircraft, impacting plans for developing newer models like the E175-E2.

On June 18th, alongside this announcement, Embraer disclosed a separate deal involving South Africa’s Airlink acquiring ten E195-E2 jets from Azorra.
