Tan Son Nhat International Airport | Wikipedia

After a late-night flight arrived at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, passengers and crew found themselves trapped for approximately 40 minutes inside a sealed jet bridge corridor. The delay was due to the absence of ground staff to open the exit door leading into the airport. This incident occurred after midnight on Sunday, June 15, and was later reported by VnExpress.

Nguyen Quoc Binh, an administrator of the OFFB Facebook community and a passenger on the Bamboo Airways flight from Da Nang, recounted that the aircraft landed at 00:20 on Sunday. Although parked at a jet bridge at Terminal 1, which negated the need for a shuttle bus, passengers and crew could not exit due to a locked glass door.

Binh described the situation as frustrating, with babies crying and people shouting in exasperation. After about 40 minutes, an airport security officer and an airline staff member unlocked the door. "There were no ground staff there at all. Everyone had to wait for a long time," Binh said.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has directed the Southern Airports Authority to investigate why passengers were not met at the jetbridge exit. The CAAV also called for improved oversight of airlines and ground service providers to ensure consistent service quality.

In online discussions following reports by Dan Tri newspaper and VnExpress, many blamed Tan Son Nhat Airport staff for negligence. Criticism focused on the lack of communication between airline and airport personnel and insufficient emergency protocols for such situations.

The CAAV has instructed Tan Son Nhat airport authorities to review passenger-handling procedures and inter-agency coordination to prevent future occurrences. The situation continues to attract attention as stakeholders seek improvements in staffing levels and gate oversight.
