A Beechcraft King Air aircraft crash-landed onto the roof of a hangar at New Century AirCenter near Gardner, Kansas, on June 16th. The incident resulted in injuries to both the pilot and a passenger. KCTV 5 reported that the accident occurred around 13:20 and was attributed to a technical failure.
The twin-engine plane struck the top of a Butler Avionics hangar, according to Johnson County officials. The Kansas Highway Patrol noted that the plane was flying southbound when "[a] mechanical malfunction caused the left engine to become inoperable… [The] pilot lost control of airplane turning left and crashing into building."
General aviation is often riskier than commercial flights due to various factors, including less stringent training requirements for pilots. A private pilot's certificate requires only 40 hours of flight time, whereas airline transport pilots need at least 1,500 hours.
