The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has secured a new order for its A350-1000 widebody aircraft. STARLUX Airlines, based in Taiwan, confirmed an order for 10 additional A350-1000s to enhance its long-haul fleet as it expands international operations.

STARLUX currently operates a fleet of 28 all-Airbus aircraft and has 30 more on order, including the A350 Freighter and A350-1000. The airline aims to grow in North American markets by positioning itself as a high-end international carrier.

Deliveries of the newly ordered A350-1000s are expected to start in 2031. STARLUX already uses the A350-900 on long-haul routes such as Los Angeles and San Francisco. The -1000 variant will provide increased capacity, extended range, and improved efficiency over longer distances. According to Airbus, this model offers up to 25% lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared to older-generation aircraft.

STARLUX CEO Glenn Chai described the order as a "significant step" toward enhancing the airline's global presence. He emphasized that the A350-1000 aligns with STARLUX’s premium brand strategy: “This aircraft offers efficiency, range, and comfort, making it the perfect fit for our strategy to optimize long-haul operations while delivering an exceptional passenger experience.”

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry from Airbus added: "With its advanced design and fuel-efficient performance, the A350-1000 Long Range Leader enables airlines to optimize routes while reducing environmental impact."

As of mid-2025, Airbus reported receiving over 1,300 orders for the A350 family from 60 customers worldwide. The type is already operational with 38 carriers globally. At the Paris Air Show's opening day alone, Airbus received an order for 25 A350-1000s from Riyadh Air.

For STARLUX Airlines, this latest acquisition supports its fleet development strategy and ambition to expand premium long-haul services into new markets. The airline plans to leverage these aircraft for transpacific operations and intends to launch its first European destination next year.

Founded five years ago, STARLUX has quickly established itself as a premium international carrier with one of Asia's youngest fleets averaging around 2.8 years old. In 2025, it earned a prestigious 5-Star Airline rating from SKYTRAX after meeting high service delivery standards.

Looking forward, STARLUX plans to apply for membership in the oneworld alliance by year-end. This move would offer competitive balance within Taiwan’s aviation market alongside EVA Air (Star Alliance) and China Airlines (SkyTeam), expanding global connectivity through alliance partnerships.
