Manchester Airport, the third-busiest in the United Kingdom, continues to maintain its position as a significant hub for long-haul flights despite experiencing some fluctuations in its route offerings. The airport is poised to expand its connections with new routes, such as IndiGo's upcoming services to India, while also facing some reductions in other areas.

In May 2025, Manchester Airport recorded a notable increase in passenger numbers, welcoming over 2.9 million travelers—a 5% rise compared to the previous year. This marks the 20th consecutive month of record-breaking passenger figures, according to Manchester Airports Group (MAG). However, data from Cirium’s Diio Mi indicates that growth will be relatively flat in June.

IndiGo has announced new direct flights from Mumbai starting July 1, marking a significant step in the airline's global expansion. Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, highlighted the benefits of this route for passengers traveling between Manchester and India's domestic network. Chris Woodroofe, Managing Director of MAG, noted that this development solidifies Manchester's status as one of Europe's best-connected airports.

Despite these additions, there have been some reductions in connectivity. Singapore Airlines has ceased its service from Manchester to Houston and redirected flights back to Singapore Changi Airport. Additionally, connectivity to Asia will see a decline with Biman Bangladesh Airlines suspending flights due to demand for Hajj services.

Manchester's connections to North America remain robust with several airlines offering flights across the Atlantic Ocean. However, there are ten fewer departures compared to July 2024. In contrast, Middle Eastern routes are well-served by six airlines providing frequent departures.

African routes from Manchester include several long-haul options primarily operated by TUI Airways and Ethiopian Airlines. The airport has seen a slight increase in long-haul flights to Africa compared to last year.

The airport continues navigating changes in its flight network while maintaining essential links across various continents.
