The F-16A was introduced in 1976 at Hill AFB in Utah as part of the 34th Tactical Fighter Squadron. The aircraft earned the nickname "Viper," inspired by a science fiction television series called “Battlestar Galactica.” Lockheed Martin relocated its F-16 production line from Fort Worth, Texas to Greenville, South Carolina in 2019 to make room for new projects like the F-35 Lightning II fighter aircraft.
Under international agreements, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) began licensed production of Block 30/40/50 F-16s domestically for Turkey's Air Force during the 1980s. Korean Aerospace Industries also established a production line for similar models under their KF-16 program.
In recent years, Lockheed Martin has continued to develop new versions such as Block 70/72 series while exploring opportunities like India's proposed F-21 program and Morocco's inclusion into its supply chain network.
Celebrating its half-century milestone on June 25th last year marked an occasion attended by senior Air Force officials alongside representatives from Lockheed Martin among others who have contributed towards building or supporting these jets over decades-long service history according to Jeremy Shock:

As older fleets gradually retire across allied air forces worldwide including within USAF itself transitioning towards newer stealth-capable fighters like those seen through ongoing phasing out operations replacing them entirely sometime down future timelines ahead following completion phases already underway today led notably such instances where Luke AFB recently finished last sorties
