The Airports Council International (ACI) has named Rome Fiumicino International Airport as the winner of this year’s “Best Airport Award” at its 35th General Assembly on June 19, 2025. This marks the seventh consecutive year that the airport has been recognized in the category for European airports serving over 40 million passengers.
The award highlights excellence in staff performance, digital innovation, technology, and sustainable infrastructure. An independent panel comprising eight representatives from the European aviation sector evaluated candidates. The jury included members from organizations such as the European Commission, EUROCONTROL, and the International Transport Forum (ITF).
Rome Fiumicino was praised for its environmental efforts, notably with the launch of Europe’s largest self-consumption solar farm. According to ACI, the airport generates 30 GWh/year through solar energy and reduces CO2 emissions by over 11,000 tons annually. Additionally, it employs a data-driven approach to manage operations and maintains strong relationships with institutional stakeholders.
