Boeing 777X | Boeing

The Boeing 777X, the latest aircraft from the US planemaker, is set to make its debut with the Boeing 777-9 next year. Although this entry into service is six years behind schedule, the commercial flights for the 777-8F are expected to begin in 2028. The development of the passenger version of the 777-8 is currently on hold.

The 777X series includes improvements over its predecessor, the second-generation Boeing 777. The new models will feature new engines and larger wings, making it the largest twinjet ever built. The interior design has been updated to resemble that of a Boeing 787 rather than older models of the 777.

Among other cabin changes, Boeing has redesigned sidewalls to add four extra inches of width, which will slightly enlarge aisles without increasing seat width. New overhead bins will accommodate up to four suitcases side by side. Larger windows with dimming functions and improved cabin pressure and humidity levels are also part of these upgrades.

Twelve airlines have confirmed orders for one or more variants of the 777X, most already operating Airbus A350s. This suggests that many customers might use these aircraft to offer extensive first-class or business-class seating options alongside their A350 fleets.

Most orders are for the 777-9 variant, while development for passenger versions of other models remains paused. Notably, only two out of twelve confirmed customers do not offer a first-class cabin: China Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines.

In terms of luxury offerings, ANA plans minor updates to 'The Suite' on its new planes; Singapore Airlines will introduce a new first-class product; Emirates will include its 'Game Changer' first class; Cathay Pacific plans 'Halo Suites.' Lufthansa's Allegris business class was initially set for introduction with this model but now flies on A350s due to delays.

Emirates intends to implement doors in its business class cabins for added privacy; British Airways plans Club Suites installation along with a new first class; Qatar Airways will introduce an upgraded QSuite product on its deliveries.

While premium economy and economy sections receive less attention than luxury classes regarding innovations like weight reduction or screen size increase remain priorities across generations—Ethiopian Airlines announced Safran Z400 seats in April featuring enhanced knee room and larger screens among other improvements.
