ITA Airways announced the cancellation of 34 domestic and international flights on June 20 due to a national general strike affecting public and private sector employees. The announcement was made on X.

According to the CE Report, the strike is scheduled for June 20 and is expected to impact major transportation systems, including airports, railways, and local transit networks, leading to widespread travel disruption across Italy. Italian law mandates that only essential services will be guaranteed during specified protected time slots, which limits the ability of airlines to operate a full schedule during national industrial actions.

The CE Report further details that out of the 34 canceled flights, 32 were set to operate on June 20—the day of the strike—while two additional domestic flights were canceled on June 19 and June 21 as a precautionary measure. ITA Airways has advised all affected passengers to consult the airline’s official "Flight Info" page or contact their travel agents for the most current information before heading to the airport. These proactive steps are intended to reduce confusion and ensure passengers have the latest status regarding their travel plans during this period of industrial action.

According to Travel Weekly, ITA Airways’ decision to "proactively cancel" 34 flights was made to anticipate operational impacts and minimize day-of disruptions for travelers. The airline has highlighted that passengers traveling to or from major hubs such as Rome, Milan, and Bologna may be particularly affected, with the possibility of further delays or cancellations. Passengers are strongly encouraged to regularly check flight updates on the ITA Airways website or through official communication channels before traveling to the airport.

According to Wikipedia, ITA Airways is the flag carrier of Italy, established in 2020 as the successor to Alitalia and currently headquartered in Rome. The airline operates a fleet of 98 aircraft, serving 74 destinations worldwide. It is majority-owned by the Italian government, with the Lufthansa Group as a significant minority partner. ITA Airways carries approximately 18 million passengers each year and has announced its intention to join the Star Alliance in 2026, expanding its global network and partnership reach.
