Atlas Air has announced the opening of its new 250,000-square-foot Atlas Miami Operations Gateway cargo facility at Miami International Airport. The announcement was made on X.

According to GlobeNewswire, this development represents a significant investment in Miami International Airport’s cargo infrastructure. Atlas Air is relocating its entire Miami warehouse operations to this modern facility, which is situated on the airport perimeter and features dedicated aircraft parking for seamless freight movement. This move aims to streamline warehouse functions, enhance turnaround times, and enable Atlas Air to better handle the increasing demands of Miami’s freight market, where the company already processes over 500,000 tons of cargo annually.

DC Velocity reports that the new facility includes a 124,000-square-foot refrigerated cooler, now the largest on-airport perishable storage area in North America. It is specifically designed for time- and temperature-sensitive shipments such as pharmaceuticals and fresh perishables, offering direct ramp access for efficient loading and unloading. The expanded cooler capacity and proximity to Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) providers allow Atlas Air to reduce aircraft downtime, improve reliability, and better support its global cargo network connecting Miami with key markets in South America, Asia, and Europe.

According to the South Florida Business Journal, the move will consolidate Atlas Air’s previously dispersed Miami-area operations into one unified cargo center. This consolidation gives the airline direct control over its warehouse operations and enables integrated aircraft handling, resulting in increased operational efficiency. The new facility is expected to accommodate future international growth and is scheduled to become fully operational on June 23, reinforcing Miami’s role as a leading cargo gateway in the United States.

Wikipedia provides additional context about Atlas Air as a major American cargo and charter airline founded in 1992 and headquartered in White Plains, New York. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings and operates the world’s largest Boeing 747 freighter fleet. The company serves global Aircraft Crew Maintenance Insurance (ACMI), charter, and freight customers including Amazon Air. Under CEO Michael T. Steen's leadership, Atlas Air maintains key logistics partnerships with major operational hubs in North America; Miami serves as a critical point in its international network.
