John Wayne Airport has released its statistics for May 2025, showing an increase in total passenger numbers compared to the same month last year. The airport reported 980,663 total passengers in May 2025, up by 3.1% from 950,740 in May 2024.

The number of enplaned passengers rose by 3.5%, reaching 486,423 compared to last year's figure of 470,152. Similarly, deplaned passengers increased by 2.8%, totaling 494,240 against the previous year's count of 480,588.

Aircraft operations also saw a significant rise with a total of 30,464 operations in May 2025—an increase of 21.6% from May 2024's count of 25,061. General aviation operations experienced a notable growth of 28.7%, amounting to a total of 21,530 operations compared to last year's figure of 16,734.

Commercial aircraft operations grew slightly by 4.1%, while commuter flights recorded an impressive increase of nearly two-thirds at 67.9%. Military operations decreased by -6.7%.

Air cargo tons handled fell slightly by -3.4% to a total of 1,248 tons in May this year from the previous year's figure of 1,292 tons.

International travel statistics showed declines across various metrics: Total international passengers dropped by -19.2% with figures showing a decrease from last year's numbers—24,552 this year compared to last year's tally of 30,384.

The year-to-date data reveals that overall passenger numbers are down -3.4% from the previous year despite the monthly increases observed in May.
