Sam Lasky, the Air Traffic Manager at Chicago Executive Airport (PWK), is preparing to leave his position at the end of June. He has been appointed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to take on a larger role as Air Traffic Manager at O’Hare International Airport. In his new position, Lasky will manage an air traffic control team of about 100 and oversee approximately 2,400 flights per day.

Reflecting on his time at PWK, Lasky expressed appreciation for his colleagues: “It will be hard leaving the PWK because I have loved working here,” he said. “The team here is phenomenal and I truly believe they are among the best in the country.”

Lasky's journey began in Northwest Indiana when he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After scoring high on a standard aptitude test, he pursued air traffic control training and completed the Naval Air Traffic Control Academy program in Pensacola, Florida. He was stationed in Beaufort, South Carolina for five years with his wife Gia before being deployed to Afghanistan as a Marine Mobile Team Leader for one year.

After serving internationally, Lasky joined the FAA and graduated from its academy. His career path included positions as an air traffic controller in Evansville, Indiana; Midway International Airport; and ultimately returning to PWK.

Lasky attributes his success to his ability to work well with others and maintain calmness under pressure: “I think my ability to work with all types of people and maintain a calm demeanor has served me well,” he stated.

Discussing his career demands, Lasky acknowledged that it involves significant effort and long hours: “In this business, I really work whenever I am needed, depending on what is going on,” he explained. “But the people are really great.”
