American Express Membership Rewards will cease transfers to HawaiianMiles on June 30. This change impacts those wishing to transfer points to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, a valuable yet challenging airline loyalty currency.
Since last year, HawaiianMiles have been transferable to Mileage Plan, providing Amex cardholders an indirect way to move their Membership Rewards points to Alaska Airlines. This option became available after Alaska Airlines acquired Hawaiian Airlines.
The announcement was made on the American Express website and mobile app. "While we don't usually recommend speculative transfers from a credit card points program to a particular airline or hotel partner, this could be an exception for Alaska Airlines and Oneworld fans," stated American Express. The Mileage Plan offers competitive award rates on short-haul domestic flights and transatlantic business-class flights from the East Coast.
