Hyatt may soon be linked to a major development in New York City, potentially introducing the first casino to Manhattan. Development and gaming companies across the United States have been crafting plans to secure one of three new downstate New York gaming licenses for "table gaming casinos," as reported by CBS News.

One proposal is The Avenir, a large-scale gaming and entertainment complex proposed by Silverstein Properties, Rush Street Gaming, and Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment. This project is planned for Manhattan's far west side near the Javitz Center and Hudson Yards. The Avenir would feature a 785-foot-tall building with a casino, multiple bars and restaurants, event spaces, a spa, fitness center, outdoor pool, and entertainment venues.

The development would also include a 1,000-room hotel from Destination by Hyatt. This brand is described as "a diverse collection of independent hotels, resorts and residences that are individual at heart yet connected by a commitment to embody the true spirit of each location." At this early stage in the partnership—with only a letter of intent signed—the developers have revealed that "Luxury suites will be adorned with high-quality finishes and floor-to-ceiling glass windows that frame sweeping views of the New York City skyline."

The developers chose Hyatt as their partner due to its history of successful hotel projects near major convention centers like the Javits Center. They also aim to leverage the World of Hyatt loyalty program's more than 56 million members.

Additionally, The Avenir plans to collaborate with major restaurant groups such as Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group and Starr Restaurants to offer food-and-beverage concepts alongside its casino, hotel, and entertainment venues.

Whether or not this project comes to fruition remains uncertain. However, it wouldn't mark Hyatt's first venture into New York City casinos; Resorts World New York City in Queens already hosts Hyatt Regency JFK Airport at Resorts World New York City.

The New York State Gaming Commission is expected to announce the three winners of these new licenses by December 2025. Other significant bids were anticipated from Wynn Resorts in New York City and Las Vegas Sands on Long Island but both have withdrawn according to CNBC.

Remaining proposals include two existing casinos without table games in the area (including Resorts World) along with new projects at Coney Island and Caesars Palace in Times Square backed by Jay-Z's Roc Nation.
