Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has announced it is accepting mural proposals for its "Meet Me at the Mural" initiative. Selected artworks will be displayed throughout the airport for a period of two to five years. The announcement was made on X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to Los Angeles World Airports, the call for proposals is open exclusively to Southern California artists, teams, and curators. This reflects the initiative’s goal of showcasing regional talent at one of the nation’s busiest international hubs. Proposals must be submitted by July 30, 2025, indicating a defined recruitment period and targeted demographic for participation. Participants are expected to create large-scale murals that engage diverse airport audiences.

LAX’s official Art Program page states that the airport’s initiative aims to "enhance and humanize the travel experience" by featuring local and regional artists through temporary and permanent public art installations. The mural opportunity aligns with this mission, adding new large-scale artworks throughout terminals and concourse areas. This approach reflects LAX’s broader commitment to integrating culture and environment within its passenger facilities.

Past implementations of the "Meet Me at the Mural" initiative demonstrate its impact: a recent press release revealed that five of nine new installations were created under the program, including the prominent "Everyday Transcendence" mural by Allison Kunath in Terminal 4. The mural spans 226 feet and illustrates LAX’s scale and ambition for public art. These examples underscore how submitted murals are likely to both transform physical spaces and heighten passenger engagement.

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), operated by Los Angeles World Airports, is the primary global gateway for Southern California, handling over 76 million passengers in 2024. It is recognized as the world’s eleventh-busiest airport and a leading cultural hub, integrating architecture—such as its iconic mid-century Theme Building—with public art programs that reflect the region’s identity.
