San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) has introduced Mission Support therapy dogs to help passengers relax with stress-relieving interactions before boarding.

According to the SBD Good Neighbor newsletter, these therapy dogs from East Valley Therapy Dogs are regularly stationed in the terminal. They aim to reduce anxiety and create a more positive experience for travelers, particularly those who may be nervous about flying. The presence of these dogs is part of the airport’s ongoing efforts to enhance passenger comfort and support emotional well-being during travel.

A Facebook post from SBD Airport highlights that the therapy dogs—such as Bentley, Elliott, Juniper, and Violet—are easily identified by their "SBD Mission Support" bandanas. They have become a favorite among passengers who often stop to pet them, take photos, and express gratitude for their calming influence. Social media feedback collected by the airport shows a strong positive reaction, illustrating the important role of therapy dogs in enhancing the overall airport experience.

The SBD Good Neighbor newsletter also explains that the Mission Support program is a nod to the airport’s history as the former Norton Air Force Base. Previously, "mission support" referred to logistical and operational support for the military. Today, SBD has adapted this tradition by supporting the community through programs such as therapy dog visits for travelers. This connection to its military heritage helps foster a sense of community and care for everyone passing through the airport.

According to Wikipedia, San Bernardino International Airport serves the Inland Empire region of Southern California and is operated by the San Bernardino County Airport Authority. The airport handles both passenger and cargo operations, aiming to offer efficient service to regional travelers and businesses. Wikipedia also notes SBD’s growing community engagement through programs such as therapy dog visits, wildlife patrols, and outreach events.
