Copa Airlines has announced the launch of a new flight route to San Diego, California. The service will offer four weekly flights connecting through its Hub of the Americas in Panama, as per a post on X.

According to the official X post by Copa Airlines, the carrier was welcomed in San Diego with the inauguration of nonstop flights from Panama City Tocumen International Airport. The service is now available four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. This development enhances travel options between Southern California and Latin America. Copa Airlines emphasizes that this new route enables San Diego travelers to connect easily to over 75 destinations throughout Central and South America.

The airline's official newsroom states that the San Diego service is part of a broader network expansion that includes new frequencies to several U.S. cities in 2024. The announcement explains that the route was strategically chosen to strengthen commercial and tourism links between Panama, California, and the Americas. This decision leverages the efficiency of Copa’s Hub of the Americas in Panama City. Additionally, Copa Airlines reports that the San Diego launch is expected to attract both business and leisure travelers seeking faster connections to Latin America.

The San Diego Tourism Authority forecasts that Copa Airlines’ direct connection will increase international arrivals to San Diego and bolster the city’s position as a gateway to Pacific and Latin American markets. The authority notes that international visitors typically spend more per trip than domestic travelers, highlighting how new air routes are crucial for supporting the local economy, hotel sector, and convention business. The collaboration between Copa Airlines and local tourism agencies reflects a shared goal of expanding global access to San Diego.
