American Airlines is expanding its network in 2025 with the addition of eight new destinations. The airline, along with its regional unit American Eagle, plans to operate flights to 359 airports this year, surpassing other operators. This expansion includes Carlsbad, Edinburgh, Golden Triangle, Puerto Escondido, Santa Maria, South Caicos, Sun Valley, and Tampico.

Flights to Santa Maria and Sun Valley were announced on June 26 and will be operated by American Eagle from Phoenix. "The list includes South Caicos. This is, of course, served from Miami," covering a distance of 546 nautical miles each way. The route commenced on March 15 following the reconstruction of South Caicos’ airport.

American Airlines has not yet started flights to Santa Maria, Sun Valley, and Puerto Escondido. Puerto Escondido is one of the 30 Mexican destinations served by American from Dallas/Fort Worth.

The launch dates for these new routes vary throughout the year. Carlsbad saw its first flight on February 13 from Phoenix with two daily Envoy Air E175 services. Edinburgh was added on May 23 with daily flights from Philadelphia using Boeing 787-8/787-9 aircraft during the summer season.

Golden Triangle began service on May 5 from Dallas/Fort Worth with SkyWest CRJ700 aircraft switching to CRJ900 in July. Flights to Puerto Escondido are set to start on December 3 from Dallas/Fort Worth twice weekly using Envoy Air E175s.

Santa Maria's service will begin on October 16 from Phoenix with two daily SkyWest CRJ900 flights. Sun Valley will see its inaugural flight on December 18 also from Phoenix with daily SkyWest CRJ900 operations.

Tampico joined the network on March 6 with daily Envoy Air E175 flights from Dallas/Fort Worth.

"Only Edinburgh sees American's mainline equipment," marking a return to the Scottish capital since it last operated there in 2019 before COVID-19 halted services. The route now uses widebody aircraft due to strong demand coinciding with events like the Edinburgh Tattoo and Fringe Festival.

Sun Valley becomes American's third destination in Idaho alongside Boise and Idaho Falls. Last year saw limited traffic between Phoenix and Sun Valley but the new service aims to capitalize on transit traffic through connections at Phoenix and Chicago.
