The UNI Africa Regional Conference concluded with a strong focus on consolidating working-class power. Union leaders from over 50 UNI Global Union affiliates across Africa gathered to elect new leadership and strategize for the next four years. The conference, held during UNI Global Union’s 25th anniversary year, addressed challenges such as rising inequality, gender discrimination, technological disruption, and debt.

Amos Matsinhe, General Secretary of Mozambique’s SINECOSSE union, praised the impact of UNI’s 40-for-40 campaign in promoting women to leadership positions and highlighted the organization’s commitment to youth inclusion. Christy Hoffman, UNI General Secretary, emphasized the need for transformation in response to changing industries and the importance of building unions in new areas.

Keith Jacobs, UNI Africa Regional Secretary, pointed out achievements like organizing breakthroughs in Kenya's security sector and Ghana's healthcare sector. He also mentioned new affiliations in Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, and Tunisia and a 36-country DHL alliance. Joel Odigie of ITUC Africa called for action against class, gender, and race struggles while advocating for debt justice.

Representatives from Swedish affiliates Handels and Unionen, along with Finnish affiliate PAM and solidarity organizations SASK (Finland) attended. PAM’s Mari Taivainen warned about potential reversals in progress under Finland's right-wing government. Alke Boessiger introduced UNI’s Human Rights Due Diligence Competence Centre aimed at holding corporations accountable.

Artificial intelligence was a significant topic discussed by Molly Kinder from Brookings Metro who urged trade unions to engage proactively with AI developments. Asma Ghanmi highlighted health risks faced by content moderators.

Youth President Crisnelda Nhamucale presented an action plan focusing on mentorship and climate justice while Women’s President Pauline Sawadogo outlined goals including advancing women's health and representation.

The conference expressed solidarity with Palestine and adopted four motions guiding future actions. Oyinkan Olasanoye was elected President of UNI Africa alongside Keith Jacobs’ re-election as Regional Secretary who advocated for peace amidst global conflicts.

Concluding the event, Jacobs emphasized working together with affiliates to strengthen working-class power for better worker conditions.
