United Airlines has seen significant changes in its transatlantic operations from Newark Liberty International Airport over the past decade. The airline, which began operations in 1926, has expanded its global reach, with Newark serving as a central hub for its transatlantic flights.

In 2015, United's transatlantic network from Newark was concentrated on a few high-volume routes. The United Kingdom was a major focus, with London Heathrow alone accounting for 1,780 flights that year. Other key destinations included Paris Charles de Gaulle and several cities in Germany and Ireland.

Between 2016 and 2020, United adjusted its network by withdrawing from certain UK cities like Belfast and Birmingham while experimenting with new seasonal routes such as Athens and Reykjavik. The airline also optimized aircraft usage to manage capacity effectively.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought disruptions, but by 2021 United began restoring routes and expanding into leisure-heavy destinations like Dubrovnik and Nice. By 2025, the airline had reestablished many pre-pandemic routes and introduced new ones while standardizing aircraft deployment on key routes.

Looking ahead to 2026, United plans to continue growing its Newark-Europe network with increased flight frequencies and larger aircraft utilization on high-demand routes.
