Air Canada has decided to halt its winter flight service between Toronto and Jacksonville, Florida. This move follows the airline's recent announcement of discontinuing services to five other destinations for the winter season. The company cited factors such as low demand for cross-border travel, political tensions, and profitability challenges during the winter months.

Data from Cirium, an aviation analytics firm, indicates that Air Canada will suspend flights on this route from November 2025 through March 2026. The service is expected to resume in the summer of 2026. The airline had originally planned daily flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport and Jacksonville International Airport using Bombardier CRJ 900 jets operated by Jazz Aviation, a subsidiary of Air Canada.

The CRJ 900 aircraft have a seating capacity for up to 76 passengers distributed across three classes: business, economy plus, and economy. Air Canada is currently the only carrier providing nonstop direct flights between these two cities.

The decline in cross-border air travel between Canada and the United States has been notable. Canadian government statistics reveal a reduction in both passenger numbers and bookings for flights to the US. In early 2025, after President Donald Trump's inauguration and subsequent controversial remarks about Canada potentially being considered a US state, Canadian-resident air return trips decreased significantly.

While some airlines like United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and Porter Airlines have increased their capacity on US-Canada routes this year compared to last year, others like Sun Country Airlines, Flair Airlines, and Air Transat have reduced their flight schedules considerably. Cirium data shows that overall capacity has only decreased by about 1% compared to previous years.
