Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) recently conducted a challenge for its frequent flyers, resulting in several participants becoming millionaires in EuroBonus points. This promotion was initiated after SAS transitioned from the Star Alliance to SkyTeam last year. The challenge required members of its frequent flyer program to travel with 15 of its new partner airlines within a span of less than three months to earn the million-point reward.

Despite substantial interest, fewer than 2% of participants completed the challenge and claimed their prize, which is valued at approximately $10,000 in flight redemptions. "Even though I only saw the airport, I remember being totally captivated — it felt like I was inside a concert hall," shared Nara Lee, a travel blogger from South Korea who participated in the challenge.

The promotion ran from October 8th to December 31st, 2024. Participants could earn between 10,000 and 1,000,000 points by flying with different SkyTeam airlines during this period. To qualify for the top-tier prize of one million points, participants needed to fly with at least 15 member airlines.

By the end of the promotional period, around 940 EuroBonus members successfully met this requirement. Most winners hailed from the United States (173), followed by Japan (149), South Korea (130), and China (112). The airline permitted reward flights as part of their total counts.

Lee undertook her journey across multiple countries over roughly 24 days at a cost exceeding $4,500. Meanwhile, Barry Collins from Britain opted for four separate trips that included flights through various destinations such as Jeddah and Shanghai.

"Next time I'll come back wearing something nice and flying business class," Lee said about her experiences during her travels.

According to SAS statistics, about 77% of those who finished had no prior EuroBonus status before participating in this event. Furthermore, out of nearly 43,000 entrants overall - some were newly enrolled into SAS's loyalty scheme - increasing their loyal customer base substantially.
