Boeing is maintaining its confidence in the timeline for the Boeing 777X, projecting deliveries to commence next year. Despite previous delays and skepticism from some airlines, Justin Hale, Boeing's Customer Leader for 777Xs and Freighters, expressed assurance about meeting a 2026 service entry during a presentation at the Paris Air Show.

Hale highlighted the 777X's role in replacing high-capacity aircraft like the Boeing 747 and Airbus A380. The new plane is "uniquely positioned in a changing widebody landscape," offering up to 426 seats with its -9 variant. The closest competitor, the A350-1000, accommodates up to 376 passengers.

Addressing customer concerns, particularly from Emirates who anticipates receiving their planes by 2027, Hale noted that "Emirates is not our first delivery airplane." He emphasized regular communication with customers about progress and certification status: "Every two weeks, we have direct phone calls with all of those customers as a group and then we meet individually with them continuously as well."

Lufthansa will be the inaugural recipient of the Boeing 777X. The airline has ordered 20 Boeing 777-9s and seven freighter versions (777-8Fs). The smaller -8 variant will follow after its freighter counterpart enters service in 2028.

The current order book shows over 500 planes requested by various airlines including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa, Etihad Airways, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Korean Air, All Nippon Airways, China Airlines, Air India, Cargolux, Ethiopian Airlines, Silk Way West Airlines along with undisclosed customers.

A recent fix addressing thrust link issues brings Boeing closer to certification for the -9 variant. Redesigned engine thrust links aim to prevent cracks found during testing due to vibratory responses. This development enhances confidence in meeting projected timelines as airlines await deliveries amid extended use of older aircraft models.
