Air Hong Kong, a key player in the cargo airline industry and part of the Cathay Group, has completed a significant transition. The airline has successfully finished a seven-year re-fleeting program, marking its evolution into an all-Airbus A330F freighter airline. This change was celebrated with DHL Express, Air Hong Kong's main customer.

Since 2004, Air Hong Kong operated the A300-600F for DHL Express. Over two decades, this aircraft played a crucial role in supporting Hong Kong's aviation hub by transporting nearly three million tonnes of express cargo. With the recent completion of its re-fleeting initiative, Air Hong Kong now operates 14 Airbus A330F aircraft. This includes 10 A330-300P2F models and four A330-200F freighters.

Clarence Tai, Chief Operating Officer of Air Hong Kong, commented on the transition: “The A300-600F has been a stalwart of Air Hong Kong’s fleet and an important part of our story for over two decades." He added that the new-generation A330F will enhance operations and services for customers while contributing to the growth of Hong Kong’s air cargo sector.

Peter Bardens from DHL Express remarked on their strategic foresight: “Balancing our customers and operational needs has always been top of mind for us." He expressed confidence in continuing to deliver excellence with the new fleet.

The newer A330Fs offer 25% more payload capacity compared to their predecessors and have a range capability of 7,400 kilometers. These features allow Air Hong Kong to carry more cargo, particularly e-commerce shipments, and expand its reach to destinations like Bahrain and Sydney. Additionally, increased fuel efficiency aligns with sustainability goals shared by Air Hong Kong and the Cathay Group.

This development coincides with significant investments by the Cathay Group aimed at strengthening the aviation hub in Hong Kong. The group plans to add over 100 new-generation aircraft across various fleets in coming years.
