The United States remains a popular destination for Canadian travelers, but recent trends show a decline in cross-border air travel. Despite this decrease, one route between the two countries showed strong performance in the first quarter of 2025.

According to Cirium, an aviation analytics company, the Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Quebec (YQB) route achieved a load factor of 95.4%. This route is operated by Air Canada using Airbus A319 aircraft and offers twice-weekly flights. The A319 can accommodate 136 passengers across business and economy classes. This route is particularly popular during winter as travelers from Quebec seek warmer climates in Florida.

Air Transat also operates on this corridor with its Airbus A321LRs, achieving a load factor of 89.8%. The A321LR has a capacity of up to 199 passengers in a two-class configuration.

Other high-performing US-Canada routes include WestJet's Orlando (MCO) to Calgary (YYC) service with a load factor of 93.6%, and United Airlines' Houston (IAH) to Calgary (YYC) route at 93.4%. WestJet uses Boeing 737 MAX 8s for its service, while United Airlines deploys Airbus A319s.

United Airlines' Chicago (ORD) to Vancouver (YVR) service also ranked among the top routes with a load factor of 93%. Rounding out the list was WestJet's Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Vancouver (YVR) route, which achieved a load factor of 92.8%.

In other news, Air Canada has decided to cancel its Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) flights for the upcoming winter season due to lower demand. These flights are typically operated by Bombardier CRJ900 regional jets through Air Canada's subsidiary Jazz Aviation. The airline plans to resume operations on this route next summer.
