Egyptair Airbus A220 | Official Website

Egyptair's Airbus A220, just over five years old, is being dismantled for parts. The aircraft, registered as SU-GFA during its service life, first flew on October 15, 2019, and was delivered to Egyptair on October 26 of the same year. It is now being taken apart in North America.

The decision to dismantle the jet at such a young age comes from Azorra, the lessor that acquired Egyptair's fleet of 12 A220s for $300 million. Ron Baur, President of Azorra, stated: "We’re big believers in the Airbus A220, and it remains a highly valuable and important asset to Azorra. Parting out this used airframe and leasing its engine is a creative solution that will generate long-term opportunity for the A220 to continue to thrive."

During its operational career with Egyptair, SU-GFA accumulated only 2,531 flight hours across 2,434 cycles. Despite this limited usage due to issues with Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engines and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on travel demand, Azorra sees value in repurposing its components.

Delta Material Services has already leased the aircraft's engines to Delta Air Lines. The dismantling process aims to alleviate supply chain challenges by providing spare parts for other airlines operating similar models.

According to Aviation A2Z and Aerospace Global News (AGN), several other ex-Egyptair Azorra Airbus A220-300s are also planned to be parted out for Breeze Airways.
