Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) has announced the opening of a new logistics facility in Vianen, Netherlands. This site is designed to handle both parcel and pallet operations, enhancing the company's logistics infrastructure in the region. The facility aims to improve sorting and shipping processes with a focus on safety and sustainability.

The Vianen facility includes a warehouse space of 5,865 square meters and an office area of 816 square meters. It features ten dock doors for trailers, including one with a scissor lift. A new sorting machine increases efficiency with a capacity of 3,600 parcels per hour. There are also 48 direct loading positions for vans at the conveyor belt to expedite parcel processing.

Technological advancements at the site include parcel X-ray capabilities, a customs cage, and an aviation security area for secure air freight processing. A caster deck is available for unloading unit load devices from trailers efficiently. The advanced sorting system can automatically detect customs clearance status, while on-site planning optimizes freight scheduling.

Sustainability measures have been incorporated into the design of the facility, which holds an A-level energy label as part of FedEx's goal to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2040. The site includes fourteen charging stations for electric vehicles and four public charging points. LED lighting and automated sensors are used to reduce energy consumption. FedEx plans to deploy three electric vehicles initially in 2025 as part of its electrification strategy.

The working environment at Vianen has been improved with ergonomic workstations, modern office facilities, and advanced safety measures such as a security cage and weekly training sessions.

Ron Willemsen, managing director ground operations Benelux at FedEx stated: “Our new facility in Vianen plays a crucial role in optimizing our first- and last-mile operations, enabling us to serve our customers even better.” He added that they are proud of the sustainable solutions offered by this location which highlight their commitment to customer focus and environmentally friendly logistics.
