Federal Express Corporation has announced the introduction of a new direct flight route to enhance connectivity between South Korea and Taiwan. This development aims to improve service capacity and reliability, particularly benefiting exporters and importers in high-tech industries.

The new route connects South Korea via the FedEx Incheon Gateway at Incheon International Airport with Taiwan through the FedEx Taipei Gateway at Taoyuan International Airport. Operating daily, this is the first direct flight between these two locations, offering increased flexibility and reliability. Customers in South Korea will experience extended call-in cut-off and gateway drop-off times by up to 3.5 hours for air freight shipments using FedEx International Priority Freight and FedEx International Priority Economy.

Wonbin Park, managing director of FedEx Korea, stated, “The new direct flight underscores our commitment to our customers by supporting the growing exchange between South Korea and Taiwan, especially in electronics, semiconductors, and e-commerce fueled by K-culture goods.” He emphasized that "capacity, flexibility and reliability are crucial for building resilient, competitive supply chains."

Trade between South Korea and Taiwan remains strong, especially in the semiconductor industry amid a global surge in artificial intelligence (AI) development. South Korea is Taiwan’s fifth largest export market and fourth largest import source. Both countries are key players in the semiconductor sector and are enhancing their AI supply chain collaboration. According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), South Korea's semiconductor exports reached USD 141.9 billion in 2024.

This new flight route is part of FedEx's ongoing efforts to strengthen its global air network. Previous expansions include a December 2024 initiative connecting Asia Pacific with India and Europe, as well as an April 2025 launch of a direct flight from Singapore to Anchorage.
