Federal Express Corporation, commonly known as FedEx, has launched a new direct route connecting South Korea and Taiwan. This development aims to enhance the logistics network between the two countries and improve service capacity and reliability for export-import businesses in key trade routes focused on advanced industries.

The new route links FedEx's Incheon Gateway at Incheon International Airport with the Taipei Gateway at Taoyuan International Airport. It marks the first direct flight between South Korea and Taiwan, operating seven times a week to provide more flexible and reliable services. Additionally, customers in South Korea using FedEx International Priority Freight or FedEx International Priority Economy services will benefit from extended cut-off times for cargo pickup by up to 3.5 hours.

FedEx Korea Managing Director Park Won-bin stated, "This direct route is part of FedEx's ongoing customer-centric efforts to support active trade between Korea and Taiwan, centered on electronics, semiconductors, and K-culture-based e-commerce products." He emphasized that "transport capacity, flexibility, and reliability are crucial elements for securing supply chain resilience and competitiveness. Through this new route, we will actively support our customers in solidifying cross-border business growth opportunities within the Asia-Pacific region."

Trade between South Korea and Taiwan continues robustly with a focus on the semiconductor industry. Amid rising global demand for artificial intelligence (AI) development, South Korea stands as Taiwan's fifth-largest export market and fourth-largest import source. Both nations play pivotal roles in the semiconductor sector while enhancing AI supply chain cooperation.

According to South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Korean semiconductor exports reached an all-time high of $141.9 billion in 2024. Notably, exports to Taiwan increased significantly from 6.4% in 2020 to 14.5% during January-November 2024 [1]. The new air route is expected to strengthen connectivity and operational efficiency for manufacturers—particularly those in high-tech industries—and positively contribute to South Korea’s economic growth.

This new air route is part of FedEx’s efforts to strengthen its global aviation network. In December 2024, FedEx opened a new route linking Asia-Pacific with India and Europe to enhance inter-country connectivity further expanded its network between Southeast Asia and major U.S markets by launching its first direct flight from Singapore to Anchorage in April 2025.
