Canada is preparing to celebrate its 158th birthday on July 1, 2025. Known as Canada Day, the holiday marks the formation of the Canadian Confederation under the British Colonial Empire. This year, travel trends show a shift towards domestic destinations amid recent political events.

According to Cirium, an aviation analytics company, the busiest air routes for Canada Day are from major U.S. cities near the border. Toronto and Vancouver airports will see most of this traffic, with Montreal taking one spot in the top ten. "Toronto’s Pearson International Airport (YYZ) has the lion’s share," reflecting its status as Canada's largest city and proximity to Chicago and New York.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is another key hub for travelers heading to Vancouver. Delta Air Lines offers nearly 3,500 seats from Seattle to Vancouver International. The route benefits from Seattle's large population and many connecting flights.

In terms of international travel, Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport leads with nearly 10,000 long-haul seats into Montreal on Air France flights. Cancun ranks second among intercontinental sources of visitors with WestJet offering just over 3,000 seats to Toronto.

Celebrations across Canada include fireworks, parades, live music, and outdoor festivals. In Montreal, a swearing-in ceremony for new citizens will take place during festivities.

LaGuardia Airport plays a crucial role in transporting travelers from New York City to Toronto with over 8,300 seats available on Air Canada jets. Despite past challenges with weather-related delays and air traffic control issues, LaGuardia remains strategically important due to its proximity to Manhattan.

Data from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey indicates mixed results for early 2025 but anticipates a busy summer season in commercial flying.
