The inaugural flight from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport to Porto, Portugal, took off on July 2, 2025. The launch event was attended by guests, dignitaries, and executives from Ethiopian Airlines. This new route is a part of Ethiopian Airlines' growing global network and enhances the socio-economic relationship between Ethiopia and Portugal.

Mr. Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, commented: “We are truly delighted to launch a new flight to Porto, Portugal, reinforcing yet another link between Africa and Europe. We are dedicated to enhancing our passengers’ convenience in traveling across the globe in a seamless connection and delivering our renowned award-winning services. This new route is beyond a connection between Addis Ababa and Porto. It is a bridge between Africa and Europe.” He also stated: “As we expand our global network, we remain committed to delivering our signature Ethiopian hospitality and reliable service to every corner of the world we fly to.”

The airline will operate this service four times weekly using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner with a stopover in Madrid, Spain. This development not only introduces a new gateway to Portugal but also solidifies Ethiopian's status as a key airline connecting Africa with global destinations. It highlights Ethiopian Airlines' dedication to linking people, cultures, and economies through efficient air travel.
