Federal Express Corporation has partnered with the nonprofit organization Mirai no Mori to bring nature and creativity to children from care homes in the Greater Tokyo Area. The collaboration took place through the Back to Nature program, which was held in Mitake, western Tokyo. FedEx volunteers engaged with the children in a day of nature-based craft activities along the Tama River.

Participants gathered materials and brainstormed ideas for creating unique works of art from natural elements. The aim was to encourage creativity while also teaching about environmental stewardship.

“At FedEx, we are committed to investing in the well-being of our communities, and enhancing the local environment,” said Kei Alan Kubota, managing director of FedEx Japan. “We believe that experiences in nature not only boost creativity and teamwork but also instill a lasting sense of environmental responsibility. These values will benefit these children throughout their lives, nurturing them into thoughtful and engaged members of society.”

In Japan, around 23,000 children reside in care homes due to various circumstances. The Back to Nature program seeks to provide these children with empowering experiences through outdoor activities like hiking, forestry, and rafting. These activities aim to build confidence and resilience as they prepare for life after leaving the care system.

This initiative is part of FedEx Cares global community engagement efforts.
