The International Association of Machinists (IAM) in District 837 has entered a new phase of negotiations with Boeing. The IAM represents workers at Boeing's aircraft assembly facilities, specifically those in St. Louis, Missouri, St. Charles, Missouri, and Mascoutah, Illinois. These discussions have been ongoing for over a month amid the possibility of a strike.

District 837 is mainly comprised of employees involved in Boeing's defense division, which has its former headquarters in St. Louis. This region remains crucial to the division's operations and plays a significant role in supporting the United States Armed Forces.

The current contract between IAM District 837 and Boeing will expire on July 27, 2025. Workers are seeking pay raises and improvements to quality-of-life benefits to ensure that working at Boeing Defense, Space & Security is seen as a long-term career option.

Boeing Defense, Space & Security is facing challenges such as program delays and increased competition alongside talent shortages. Problems within Boeing Commercial Airplanes have also contributed to difficulties for the company overall.

Sam Cicinelli, General Vice President of the IAM Midwest Territory stated: "The IAM will stand shoulder to shoulder with our members at Boeing Defense...They’ve earned the right to a strong contract, and we will back them every step of the way."

Negotiations began on June 20th with an overwhelming majority of union members authorizing a strike if necessary. A strike would be detrimental for Boeing Defense due to existing struggles like those faced by the VC-25B program.

The final decision on whether or not there will be a strike hinges upon these ongoing talks concluding successfully before July 27th when voting takes place regarding any potential agreement reached by then.
