Airbus has announced the appointment of Lars Wagner as the new Chief Executive of its Commercial Aircraft division. Wagner, currently CEO of MTU Aero Engines in Germany, will officially assume his new role on January 1, 2026. He will succeed Christian Scherer, who has led the commercial aircraft sector since early 2024.
Wagner brings a wealth of experience from his time at MTU Aero Engines, where he served in various senior roles since joining in 2015. His leadership at MTU included positions such as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer. During his tenure, he focused on stabilizing the business amidst supply chain challenges and advancing sustainability initiatives.
Returning to Airbus marks a homecoming for Wagner, who previously held management roles at several company sites including Bremen, Hamburg, and Toulouse. Scherer expressed confidence in Wagner's capabilities: "We have a clear plan for our Commercial Aircraft business...I believe that Lars...is the natural choice for Airbus as my successor."
